The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has thrown its weight behind the Supreme Court judgement granting financial autonomy to 774 Local Government Areas of the Country.
On this note Nasarawa State House of Assembly became top among other state houses of Assembly in total support to the supreme court judgement on LGs autonomy in the country.
This also goes to demonstrating that the Nasarawa State Government in a show of democratic freedom to all arms of government would be the first to implementing the constitutional law for development to thrive in the grassroot level.
Speaker of the House Rt Hon, Danladi Jatau gave the house position on the local government autonomy under matters of public importance brought forth by Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar (NNPP- Doma North) the Chairman House Committee on LG and Chieftaincy Affairs during the House proceedings today in Lafia.
The Speaker said that with the Supreme Court judgement, there would be speedy development at the grassroots in the country.
The Nasarawa State Number One Lawmaker congratulated the 774 Local Government Areas over the victory, describing the Supreme Court judgement as victory for democracy.
Danladi Jatau also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi for the bold steps they have taken to ensure local government autonomy in the country.
“I am happy with the mover of this motion and Honourable members for your positive contributions on the matter.
“Nasarawa State House of Assembly align its self with the Supreme Court judgement granting financial autonomy to 774 local government areas in the country.
“We congratulate the 774 Local Government Areas of the country as we also congratulate the chairmen of the Local Government Areas,” he said.
In the same vain the National President Association of Local Government of Nigeria who is also Chairman of the Nasarawa State chapter of the Association, Hon, Muazu Maifata, has expressed delight over the Supreme Court judgement granting autonomy to local governments.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Maifata said the judgement is a welcome development that will enable local governments to provide more dividends of democracy to the people.
“We are happy with the judgement,the decision is accepted by Nigeria and Nigerians. Some governors have accepted the verdict and made pronouncements, especially the North Central Chairman of the Governors Forum and Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule.”He confirmed
Maifata noted that the judgement will empower local government chairmen to do more for their people, stressing that it is about the people and the council.
In the issue of minimum wage, Maifata said once it becomes a law, local governments will have no choice but to pay or abide by it.
“The people are close to the LGAs, and the chairmen will have no reason to fail,” He added.
New National Star recalled that Nasarawa State in recent under the present administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule have keyed into development programmes that can better the lives of it citizens as designed by the federal government.
In recent the state was ranked first in execution of the NG-Care funds release to states to help cushion effects of hardship which was prudently utilized by the Nasarawa State Government, earning it more opportunities.
