Lower Food Prices, Clergy Begs Governments

The federal and state governments have received advice from Sheikh Musibau-deen Olawale, the national Ameer of Daaru-r-Rahmat Islamic Society, on how to lower the cost of food in the nation.

The cleric stated in his Eid-el-Fitr speech that such an action is required to demonstrate the reflection of alleviation on the naira to dollar exchange rates.

Olawale stated that “the prevailing economic situation has continued to take a toll on the livelihood of all Nigerians, caused by astronomical hikes in the prices of foodstuffs across the country.”

“The population’s growth and health have been impacted by the development, which is so damaging that it is extremely difficult for the people to eat their three meals a day.

“I am pleading with the federal and state governments to collaborate on this and make sure that the prices of foodstuffs stabilize to enable the people to have access to food,” he said, referring to the strengthening of the Nigerian naira relative to the US dollar.

Noting that the teachings of Ramadan continue to be a spark for a great nation, he urged Muslims to allow the lessons learned from the fast to inform their behavior and attitudes.

According to him, Islam assigns good acts to an individual in an attempt to lessen hunger and poverty in society and promotes accountability, sincerity, and mutual assistance.
