The Labour Party (LP) has tendered an unreserved apology to a former Commissioner at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the inclusion of his name in the Electoral Reform Committee.
In a statement on Thursday, the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Obiora Ifoh said that his name was included in error just as he announced that a replacement will he made known before the inauguration of the committee.
According to Ifoh, “Mike Igini’s name was mistakenly included earlier as a member of the committee. We have however dropped his name and his replacement will be announced during the inauguration of the committee coming up very soon. We regret this mix up and has since tendered apologies to this very well respected Nigerian”.
The National Working Committee of LP had earlier constituted and Electoral Reform Committee with the mandated to carry out a wholistic review of the electoral process that will guarantee free and fair elections.
The 17 member committee is chaired by Hon. Dr. Sam Amadi while Comrade Ayo Olorunfemi is the Alternate Chairman, Mrs Dudu Manuga – Secretary, Comrade Adekunle Rotimi – Alternate Secretary and Barr. Calistus Ihediagwa – Alternate Secretary
Members are Nasiru kura, Alex Ejeseme (SAN), Hannah Amina Yahaya, Hon.Chijioke Edeoga, Sen. Tony Nwoye, Hon. Benedict Etanabene, Hon. Esosa Iyawe and Nuhu Toro (TUC).
Also on the list are Mohammed A. Raji, Martins Egbanubi (TUC), Mohammed Sabitu Aliyu, Obaze Oseloka, Hon. Oke-Joe Onuakalusi, Hon. Auwal Aliyu Tafoki, Prof Onje Gye-Wado and Ishaku Adam.
