Maikalangu laments poor development in AMAC communities

BY DAVID ADUGE-ANI, ABUJA

Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu has expressed worry over poor infrastructural development in many rural communities of AMAC.

Maikalangu, who stated this at the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of 2.5km access roads in Lugbe and Sabon-Lugbe communities, said residents are suffering and needs urgent government intervention.

The AMAC chairman disclosed, however, that his administration, in the last two years, has constructed 15 asphalt roads, which are awaiting commissioning, and build other infrastructure across communities in the 12 wards of the council, to give the people a sense of belonging and provide democracy dividends.

He said the government has also embarked on rural electrification, water supply, health services, women and youth empowerment, as well as enhancing educational development, among others.

Maikalangu directed the contractors handling the one-kilometer road project in Sabon-Lugbe community to deliver the job in a two-month period to alleviate the suffering of the people.

He called on the traditional rulers, residents, property owners, and other stakeholders to cooperate and compliment government efforts by giving maximum support to the contractors so that he can deliver the job in record time.

Also speaking, the head of Department of Works (AMAC), Architect Andrew Gaza, said the road projects are divided into two, including 1.5km for Lugbe and 1km for Sabo Lugbe.

Gaza explained that the roads would be asphalted with drainages to encourage development in the two communities.

Earlier in an interview, the AMAC supervisory councilor for special duties, Hon Emmanuel Inyang, had noted that the road new projects and other projects in AMAC rural communities have reduced insecurity, improved life, and encouraged economic growth in the areas.
