Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has called on governments, at all levels in the country, to provide people-oriented projects in the local government areas for the benefit of the people at the grassroots.
Maikalangu made the call at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction and rehabilitation of a-2.5 kilometer access road in Waru community of AMAC.
The council chairman noted that if governments provide people-oriented projects for the people at the local government level, nobody would care about what is happening at the federal or state levels.
According to him, “I am praying that what we are doing in AMAC, in terms of provision of.people-oriented projects, is replicated in all the 774 local governments in the country.
This is because if governments are doing well for their people at the grassroots, nobody will care about what is happening at the federal or state levels.”
Maikalangu said he had listened to the cries of the people of Waru community and noted that bad road was affecting their businesses and livelihood, especially pregnant women who have suffered so much due to bad road.
The AMAC chairman stated that there is no community that would develop without access road, adding that the 2.5-kilometer road would run from Waru community to Yimitu community.
He continued, “However, we need the cooperation of the residents. As a community, if you need road, you have to give the cooperation.
Don’t tell me that it will affect your shop or your house. Without the cooperation of the community, we can just as well take the project to other communities who may need it.
Also, we need the youth to supervise the construction. Supervise it very well so that if there is something wrong, you will draw my attention to it.”
Speaking earlier, the supervisory councillor for works, Hon. Dantani Zaudna, said the project is divided into two phases, including the first phase of 1 kilometer and second phase of 1.5 kilometres.
He said the road would be asphalted with drainages to encourage development in the community.
While showing his appreciation, the Hakimi of Waru, Chief Ambassador Ibrahim Sarki, commended Maikalangu for the road project, saying it is the important need of the people.
Sarki said the road project would ensure the development of the community as many residents are affected by the bad road, especially during the rainy season.
