A 26 years old man, Joseph Onate of Aso Gbajalape Abuja appeared before a Grade 1 Area Court, Karu, Abuja on a count charge of assault.
The prosecution counsel, Barr Adeyanju Ayotunde said the offence contravened section 265 of the penal code law.
The complainant, one Denis Eyong told the court that while he was carrying out his lawful duty with his colleagues at Gbajalape in Abuja, the defendant who is owing light bill, wires were cut from the pole disconnecting him from electricity outreach.
This led the defendant to hit him with a stone on his face causing severe injuries.
He stated further that the defendant ran away but he was later arrested as he lives in the area.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge read to him in court.
In his ruling, Judge Inuwa Maiwada granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000(One Hundred Thousand Naira) with one surety in like sum who must provide valid means of identification and utility bill.
He adjourned the case until 19 January 2021 for further hearing.
