Manchester City Defeat Chelsea 3-1 At Stanford Bridge

Manchester City’s Ikay Gundogan, Phil Foden, and Kevin de Bruyne’s goals proved too heavy for Standford Bridge, as Chelsea were pummelled by their visitors last Sunday evening, with Pep Guardiola’s side coming out as 3-1 winner in west London.

During the opening 15 minutes, it looked as if it was Chelsea’s game. They had more ball possession and had looked the more dangerous but 20 minutes into the game Manchester City completely took charge and dictated in all departments of the game.

Ikay Gundogan gave City the lead in the 18th minute as he curled the ball past Edouard Mendy from the edge of the area. Phil Foden doubled the lead in the 21st minute with a neat finish at the near post before Kevin De Bruyne finished off a City counter in the 34th minute. City was looking to run riot and Kurt Zouma had to block both efforts from Bernardo Silva and Gundogan to deny the visitors a third on the half-hour mark. And in the 34th minute, they did make it 3-0. N’Golo Kante was punished for a last-man misplaced pass and Raheem Sterling led the City counter and former Blue De Bruyne was there to slot in past Mendy to extend the lead.

City could have added a fourth on the stroke of halftime as Chelsea were ripped apart, but Gundogan’s flick from Foden’s square ball dragged wide. The game went on as Kovacic looked to pull one back for the Blues but his effort on the edge of the area just before the hour mark flew wide of Steffen’s goal. In the 64th minute, Lampard had had enough. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Billy Gilmour came on for N’Golo Kante and Hakim Ziyech.
