The Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Kado Fish Market Traders Association (KFMTA), Kado, Abuja the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman has decried poor business transactions during and after 2024 Easter celebration.
While speaking to our correspondent on Tuesday in his office in the market, the BoT chairman had this to say: “There was no Easter business as usual. In those days, people would buy fishes in large quantities and send to their friends, but today, due to the abnormal price of the fish, people hardly buy for themselves, not to talk of buying for their friends.”
Attributing the problem to scarcity, he informed that the fish he used to sell at N2,500 per kilogram is now sold at N4,000, even as he added high transportation fares as another problem, that has been making prices of goods and services very costly.
He chided the government for saying that the exchange rate of Dollar to Naira is coming down, describing such as theories.
Treating with a wave of hands, the rumours that have been making round that traders hord their goods in order to sell at a high price and make abnormal prophit, Alhaji Ibrahim Kano said that if he hord his fish, the live ones will die and the frozen ones will spoil, due to poor electricity supplies.
In his advice to the government as it affects the situation on the ground, he said: “I advise the government to let their yes remain true yes, and their no, remains real no. Let them emulate unions. If union, like that of transportation says, no motor will move today, no motor will move. But if it is the government, the motors will move.
Look at the way the work of the police is being done by the vigilante, why?”
He said that the government is in a position to help out, but regretted that they make a lot of promises through the radios, newspapers, televisions and other means of mass media and, “we are yet to see any. We are waiting for them,” even as he enjoined their customers to bear with them, saying that it isn’t their fault, adding that they are helpless.
