Residents of Anambra State especially those living in Onitsha, hinted Monday, that market leaders and bank executives should be held responsible for not opening their markets and banks for restoration of the lost glory of trade and commerce and as such prolong the sit-at-home exercise.
According to them, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo is not the cause of the continued closure of markets and banks but can only intervene but will not enforce the reopening because he has all the arsenals around him to defend himself when attacked unlike others who do not have a guard.
In a swift reaction to the prolonged sit-at-home exercise, Chief Maduneme Obiaku, a whole seller in Onitsha, lamented that every other section of the economy is functioning except the markets, banks and courts.
“Every sector of the economy has picked up, the commercial buses have resumed in ernest, mini markets, that is street markets are always open, work shops have resumed, and people go about their businesses unmolested except that markets and banks that will bring the entire economy to full capacity via functioning, are not there.
” Money is not being paid and withdrawn from banks nor sales and payment being made in the markets because the markets are underlock and key, so they should leave Soludo out of their predicament,” he stated.
Fuming, a transporter, Mr. Ike Onyeacho, disclosed that it has become a tradition for the people to stay indoors, stating that they enjoy Monday sit-at-home exercise as one of the holidays.
” Monday has become a tradition as a day of resting but those who enjoy it more are the lazy ones who will only rely on the hardworking people to feed on without suffering for what they eat and when they find no food they turn to evil.
“The only thing Soludo can do for Monday to be restored is to order market leaders to reopen their markets or risk being sacked. If the markets are open, then, that there is nobody in the market is a different thing because everything is with time,” he posited.
Meanwhile business activities have increased than they were previously except that banks, markets, courts, local Government, schools, among others remained shut as at the time of filing this report.
