Marketer Arraigned In Court For Criminal Breach Of Trust, Cheating

A woman, Juliet Shaba, 31, has appeared in a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, FCT Abuja, over alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecuting counsel, A. S Oyeyemi, told the court that the complainant, Aniakor Ignatius of Rochas plaza Wuse zone 5 Abuja, reported the matter at the police station on 26th October 2020. New National Star reports that Oyeyemi said that the complainant employed the accused as a marketer for his Thrift company (Lift Multipurpose Cooperative Society) in April 2019, she signed an agreement to give three months notice if she wants to leave the job and promised not to steal people’s money under her care.

He told the court that he pays her wage every month until in October, when he discovered that the defendant had a misunderstanding with one of the staff and she refused to come to work or pick the managers calls. He went on to say that they checked her records and found out that she stole N29, 800. The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Defence Counsel, Boniface Udeh, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, citing Sections 162 and 158 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and said that his client will not jump bail if granted. Ruling on the bail application, Magistrate Lateef Oladapo Abolaji, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N30, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Abolaji ordered that the surety must reside within the FCT and will deposit either International passport, voters card or National ID card. In addition to undertaking to forfeit the bail bond should the defendant jump bail. He also ordered both the defendant and surety to submit their present means of identification and adjourned the case until 8th December 2020 for hearing.
