The mastermind of Iran’s nuclear bomb program has been assassinated, according to state media.
Nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh is said to have been killed in Damavand, east Tehran today.
Iran state media have confirmed his death.
Journalist Ali Hashem, who works with Al Jazeera English, tweeted: “According to some sources in Tehran an Iranian nuclear scientist was assassinated earlier today in Tehran. His name is Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.”
Iran Front Page reports the scientists’ car was struck by an explosion set by a “suicide” assassin.
He was then killed by a spray of bullets.
Several other people are said to have been killed as a result of the car explosion.
No one has claimed responsibility for the assassination yet.
