The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will undergo changes to become a revenue-generating organization, according to proposals revealed by the federal government.
The revelation was made by Minister of Youth Development Jamila Bio-Ibrahim during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics show.
The minister went on to say that the NYSC program was being reformed by the federal government to better reflect the current state of affairs in the country.
She went on to say that they all recognize that resources are limited and emphasized that they will come up with creative solutions to make sure the welfare of corps members is well-cared for.
As to her statement, “The reforms will turn the NYSC into a revenue-generating organization and equip the corps members with all the necessary support to be decently and profitably employed in the job market or to be labor employers through entrepreneurship.”
She also revealed that, as national instability grew, corps members were no longer assigned to states that were considered dangerous.
The minister clarified that coordination with other government authorities was necessary to ensure the protection of corps members.
