After Nigerian competitors excelled at the African Senior Wrestling Championship in Alexandria, Egypt, the Honorable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, praised the Daniel Igali-led Nigerian Wrestling Federation.
The wrestlers have kept up their impressive performance from the African Games in Ghana by showcasing their talents and tenacity after winning numerous gold.
Enoh, in a statement released on Tuesday, conveyed his deep respect for the Federation’s leadership and the outstanding commitment of the athletes and officials vying for titles in Egypt.
He highlighted their importance in the annals of Nigerian sports history and praised their accomplishments as astounding.
The winning streak continues even after winning six gold medals and several silver and bronze ones in the African Games in Ghana.
In the 53KG category, Christianah Ogunsanya won gold by demonstrating absolute domination and defeating Ayachi of Tunisia with a superiority score of 10-0.
Powerhouse Odunayo Adekuoroye defeated Egypt’s Chaimaa Aouissi to win her eighth African title in the 57kg class.
Kolawale Esther won her second African senior gold in the 62kg class, showing off her skills by decisively defeating Farah Hussein of Egypt 11-0.
Gratitude A legend in the sport, Oborududu won her 14th African championship in the 68kg class with a commanding 12-2 decision over Osman Badran of Egypt.
Hannah Reuben, in spite of her valiant attempt, won the silver medal in the 76kg division following a fierce battle with Zainab Sghair.
Enoh has nothing but admiration for the Federation’s leadership and the team under coach Purity Akuh.
“The Nigerian Wrestling team has shown extraordinary dedication and unmatched abilities in dominating two continental events in two weeks,” Enoh said.
“Their outstanding accomplishments inspire aspirant athletes across the nation and offer our country immense pride.
He continued, “We are all proud to be Nigerians because the Nigerian Wrestling Federation is still a shining example of excellence and their victories on the continental stage.”
