My Life Under Threat–Abia Lawmaker

Barely a few weeks ago the dust raised by former commissioner for finance, Hon. Obinna Oriaku, under Governor Ikpeazu administration, over threats to his life for questioning the management of the #22billion Abia state Paris fund is yet to settle down.

Another Abia Lawmaker, Hon. Obinna Ichita, currently representing Aba South Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, has raised another alarm over threat to his life, for questioning the management of #27billion naira, world Bank grant meant for Erosion control in Aba Abia state.

According to Hon. Obinna Ichita, for calling for a probe over the use of the fund at the floor of the House, he has received many threat calls over his life.

He said that he is bringing the threat to his life to the public domain, stating that he has made it known to all the security agencies in Nigeria and all foreign diplomatic missions in Nigeria for their attention.

The APGA Lawmaker, who did not make public those threatening his life, states they want to cash in on the insecurity in the south East to take his life.

He vowed to ensure proper accountability of the World Bank grant, adding that threat to his life will not deter him.

In a swift reaction, the Abia state commissioner for information, Chief John Okeiyi described Hon. Obinna Ichita as a man who should not be taken seriously.

He said that it’s part of the agenda of those in the opposition to heat up the political space in the state, just to achieve cheap political points.

The information commissioner said that the Honourable member is acting from a point of ignorance, stating that if he knows how the world Bank grant is accessed he will not be saying what he is saying, adding that before world Bank money is given out it must have the approval of the Bank.
