Nasarawa State Government To Enforce Law On Open Defecation

The State Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Musa Ibrahim stated this on Saturday, shortly after monitoring the State Monthly environmental Sanitation exercise in Lafia.

According to him despite the existence of the law, some residents of the State are still in the habit of defecating in open places, adding that such an act if not curtailed would cause more risks to the lives of the people.

Ibrahim who explained that government is no longer comfortable hearing reports about people defecating in open places, warned that soon the Law will be enforced and anyone caught would be made to face the wrath of the Law.

The Commissioner who expressed optimism that the proposed Re-cycling Company that would be located at Angwan Rare in Lafia Local Government Council will add value to enhance the clearness of the State, charged the people to always comply with the Sanitation Law by keeping their environments clean.

He commended the State Governor, Abdullahi Sule for re-initiating the Monthly Sanitation exercise, pledging that the Ministry will continue to work closely with other stakeholders to carry out her mandate in accordance with the Law.

Earlier in an interview, the Prosecution Officer of the Sanitation Agency, Mohammed Abubakar who described the level of compliance for this Month exercise as encouraging compared to previous ones, however, said 22 defaulters were arrested and fined.

According to him, 20 of the defaulters were Motorists while the remaining two were owners of shops.
