NCC — Glo, MTN Decide to Handle Problems in 21 Days

MTN and Globacom have committed to resolving any unresolved issues within 21 days, according to information released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Remember that the NCC released a pre-disconnection notice on January 8, 2024, alerting subscribers to the approval given to MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. (MTN) to begin the gradual disconnection of Globacom Limited (Glo) effective January 18, 2024, as a result of the parties’ ongoing interconnection debt dispute.

The Commission claimed to be acutely aware of the decision’s possible effects on consumers in a press release that was provided.

This is the case even though the NCC has persisted in working with both sides to mediate a settlement that prioritizes and defends the interests of consumers and the smooth running of the national telecom network.

However, the Commission declared that all unresolved matters between the parties have now been resolved.

Due to this, and in the exercise of its regulatory authority thereto, the Commission has decided to postpone the phased disconnection for 21 days starting today, January 17, 2024.

The Commission stated that all operating firms must settle interconnect debts in order for all licensees to comply with their regulatory duties, even though the Commission expects MTN and Glo to settle all outstanding issues within the allotted 21 days.

The telecom industry’s license holders, including Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), are required to adhere to the terms and conditions of their licenses, particularly those outlined in their interconnection agreements.
