In three years, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained 42,105 drug offenders nationwide and collected 7,590 tons of illegal drugs and chemicals valued at over N800 billion.
This was disclosed by NDLEA Chairman and CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd) during a Monday visit to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja by Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defense Staff.
According to Marwa, illegal substances are associated with crimes, particularly kidnapping, terrorism, and insurgencies.
He continued, “NDLEA has been very ferocious and aggressive in denying the criminals access to illicit substances because they all rely on drugs before carrying out their nefarious activities.”
He claims that during that time, the NDLEA also destroyed 1,057 hectares of cannabis farms and obtained the conviction of 8,350 offenders.
Additionally, he mentioned that throughout the same time frame, 29,400 drug users had counseling and rehabilitation.
“In roughly three years, we have 46 barons among the 42,105 drug offenders we have detained. We have found 7, 590 tons of narcotics, which is estimated to be worth N800 billion, Marwa informed Gen. Musa.
In keeping the country safe and in providing NDLEA with steadfast assistance, he praised the military forces for their dedication, loyalty, devotion, sacrifice, and heroism.
This, he claimed, has to do with ammunition and weapons as well as the agency’s officer and man training program.
