The leading advocacy group for public procurement, the Network for the Actualization of Social Growth and Viable Development (NEFGAD), has urged Mamman Ahmadu, the departing director general and chief executive officer of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), to follow President Bola Tinubu’s directive and transfer control to the agency’s most senior officer.
Remember that last week, President Tinubu fired Ahmadu from his position as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau of Public Procurement, or BPP, and gave him instructions to turn over control to the highest ranking officer in the organization while a new Director-General was appointed.
In response, NEFGAD invited the Inspector General of Police, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to closely oversee Mr. Mamman Ahmadu’s handover process to guarantee adherence to current service guidelines and the president’s directive.
NEFGAD’s Country Head, Mr. Akingunola Omoniyi, reaffirmed the organization’s backing for President Tinubu’s initiatives to guarantee openness and compliance with the law in his administration in a statement issued on Wednesday. Additionally, he cautioned the president to be on the lookout for anyone who would carry out unethical actions that would damage the reputation of his administration.
“We cannot continue to politicize appointments and expect a viable and functional system in the nation,” he declared.
Nobody should doubt the President’s determination to restructure the BPP for increased effectiveness and transparency, as expressed in his directive to the agency.
“We are keeping a close eye on the BPP’s transition process, and anyone found engaging in illegal activity will face stiff opposition and widespread protests.”
