NFF extends NPFL, NNL, NLO boards’ tenures until 2026

BY TONY UDOKA

The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved the extension of tenure for the boards of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL), and the Nationwide League One (NLO) until the end of the current NFF administration under Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON).

This means the boards led by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye (NPFL), Chief George Aluo (NNL), and HE Silas Ali Agara (NLO) will now continue in office until September 29, 2026, which marks the end of the present NFF board’s term.

The decision follows the expiration of the boards’ initial two-year mandate, which began on July 1, 2023, and ended on June 30, 2025.

In a statement, the NFF Executive Committee commended the performance of the three boards over the past two years and urged them to intensify efforts in delivering better-organized, commercially viable leagues that stakeholders across Africa can be proud of.

The Committee called for continuous introspection and innovation to elevate Nigerian football on all fronts.

However, the NFF has deferred its decision on the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) board, headed by Ms Nkechi Nneka Obi, to a later date.

The extensions affirm the Federation’s commitment to maintaining stability while pushing for improved league operations and professionalism.
