Nigerians have called for the sack of the Chairman, Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar for the use of ethnic slur to refer to people from south-east Nigeria.
Umar who has gotten into an altercation at a plaza in Banex, Wuse 2, Abuja allegedly released a press release in response to the fire he got for his conduct at the plaza.
In a video that has now gone viral, the chairman was seen fighting with a security guard.
To save face, a press release was made available to the public that addressed the guards who he had a disagreement with as “Biafran boys”. A press release signed by Head, Press and Public relations for the CCT Headquarters, Ibraheem Al-Hassan, said, a mob consisting of “Biafran boys” threw matches and sharp objects to his car which caused the chairman injuries and smashed the windscreen of his car. “Biafran boys” was repeated twice in the press release.
Aisha Yesufu said, “Chairman of the Code of Conduct tribunal refers to citizens as Biafran Boys? This is the height of it! Justice Danladi Umar needs to be removed from office! He has shown his bias and his position requires neutrality.”
Others said that the statement was a pointer to a disunited Nigeria.
Sam Hart said, “Biafran Boys. At a business premises in Abuja. By a Senior Government Official. In an Official Press Release. If this is allowed to slide, we will know.”
Fola said, “They refer to certain citizens as “Biafran boys” in their heads and in their closets but they publicly shove down “one Nigeria” and “detribalised” (down) everyone else’s throats. Then one day, they stop caring. No more hiding in closets. The bigotry is documented in official communication.”
Arinze Odira said, “The ‘Biafran boys’ press release tells you everything you need to know about the union called Nigeria, and most especially, the mindset of the people leading us and their level of incompetence The bigotry, nepotism, tribalism and hatred in the minds of these people is disturbing.”
Dr. Aloy Chife said, “Biafra BOY” Igbo slurring 101. In Rwanda the Tutsis were “cockroaches.” Dear Nigerians: You’re all complicit in the growing anti-Igbo sentiment whether borne of Aso Rock, Yoruba BMC, Lagoon throwers, or would be violent rapists of Igbo women. Your silence implies your consent.”
Yusuf said, “I love the protuberant prejudicial profiling and ethnic-baiting in this grammatical challenged trash. “Biafran boys.” We are gradually splitting this country by our very own hands.”
William said, “If the ‘Biafran Boy’ statement by the Code of Conduct Tribunal shocked you, then you have not been paying attention. This is the Nigeria many of you voted for in 2015. APC used open ethnic dog whistles against Igbos and Ijaws..stop pretending to be shocked.”
