Former President Goodluck Jonathan is trending on Twitter for the peaceful transition of power in 2015 from him to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Some Nigerians are of the opinion that the United States of America’s president, Donald Trump could learn from Jonathan how to control his power lust and stop the violence that has escalated at the Capitol building.
Chukudebelu Nkuzi wrote, “Dr. Goodluck Jonathan lost an election, and conceded. He said, “my ambition is not worth the blood of a single Nigerian”. Donald Trump lost an election and refused to concede. His stubbornness and stupidity have already led to the deaths of four Americans.”
“Trump trying to remain in White House as America president shows why we should keep celebrating Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. He left Aso rock in peace so there won’t be bloodshed and also to protect Nigeria’s democracy,” Seun Alaofin tweeted.
Fisayo Soyombo also wrote, “For all of Goodluck Jonathan’s imperfections, many of which I wrote about in the past, he is a far worthier statesman than Donald Trump. Trump needs specific post-election presidential carriage lessons that Jonathan can teach.”
Earlier, Jonathan wrote on Facebook that the power of love should outdo the love of power.
“This is my philosophy. I have lived it. It has brought great peace to both my beloved country and me,” he added.
Following the riots at the United States of America (USA) Capitol building which ensued after Trump refused to concede power to Joe Biden, the US president-elect.
So far, four people have been reported dead at the Capitol building and members of parliament had to be escorted out by the police to avoid been violated by the mob that invaded the premises.
In 2015, after the presidential elections confirmed Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the elections, Goodluck Jonathan conceded power amicably, placing a call to Buhari to congratulate him on his victory.
