NIWA installs 16 water buoys to accelerate navigational safety

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) announced that it has installed 16 navigational buoys along a vita section of Nigeria’s inland waterways to enhance safety for all water users.

The Agency made this known in a statement signed by its spokesman, Suleman Makama on Wednesday 12 March, 2025.

Makama emphasized that the buoys , installed from Gbajibi in Niger State to Gbajibi Mundi in Kwara State, aim to boost navigational safety and prevent accidents on the waterways.

He explained that a total of 16 buoys – 10 red and 6 green were installed on the river.

According to Makama, these buoys serves as a vital makers, indicating safe navigation channels, warning of hazard and designating protected areas.

NIWA is a federal government agency saddled with the responsibility to ensure development and management of Nigeria’s inland waterways
