The pioneer leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in Abia state, Chief Sam Nkire has commended four members of the House of Representatives, for sponsoring a bill for the creation of Aba state.
Reacting to the proposed bill, which has passed it’s first reading in the House of Representatives, Nkire described the sponsors as worthy representatives of their people.
He said the inhabitants of the nine local governments that make up the proposed Aba state would certainly be very proud of Representatives Ginger Onwusibe, Munachim Alozie, Chris Nkwonta and Ifeanyi Ikwechegh who made this possible.
Nkire added that the proposed Aba state, when created, would not only put the South East at par with other zones in the federation, which have a minimum of six states each, but would certainly be activating a production hub for the economic advancement of Nigeria as a whole.
According to him, “The issue of non-viability is out of the question, as the nine local governments which form the proposed state; Aba North, Aba South, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Obingwa, Osisioma Ngwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East and Ukwa West, are known to be rich in oil resource, industry and productive human resource.”
Nkire further stated that the quest for Aba state started in 1983 when Nigeria’s first Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Jaja Wachukwu, who hailed from Isiala Ngwa, told the Senate that the demand by his people for the creation of Aba state was, “Pursuant to section 8(1) (a) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.”
