NLC – For Workers, 2024 Will Be An Interesting Year

The National Labor Council (NLC) has stated that it will guarantee that all workers in the nation receive their entitlements.

In his New Year’s greeting to Nigerians, NLC President Joe Ajaero made this promise.

Ajaero criticized the federal government for depriving its employees of the benefit of their hard-earned December 2023 salary, therefore allowing them to go hungry over the holiday season.

He promised that by working with the government and all other relevant parties to establish the National Minimum Salary, the NLC would guarantee that workers would receive a livable salary by 2024.

“To this end, NLC will be committed in 2024 to ensuring that a living wage becomes possible for all Nigerian workers by working with others to secure a national minimum wage that approximates the dictates of the various parameters that make incomes humane and grants access to the basic necessities of life for the average worker,” the statement says in part.

“We will recommit to creating work environments that uphold employees’ rights and benefits while laying the groundwork for ongoing economic growth in our country. Therefore, every step that will guarantee that decent work gaps are minimized will be supported.

In order to govern the field of industrial relations and make sure that the examined labor administration laws are sent to the National Assembly for enactment, we will, therefore, deepen our cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Labor, the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), and the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

According to all the signs, 2024 will be a fascinating year since it will mark the beginning of the restoration of everything that has been taken from workers. Therefore, any government agency or private sector employer that owes any Nigerian worker anywhere should be prepared to make good on their debt by 2024.
