The family of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has reacted to his rearrest by the federal government of Nigeria.
Speaking in Umuahia, the Abia state capital, Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu, asked the Federal Government not to manhandle their son.
According to the IPOB leader’s brother, the pro-Biafra activist stood on the path of truth and committed no crime to deserve any persecution, Vanguard reports.
He said Nnamdi was only asking for the freedom of Biafrans which is their fundamental human right hence, his rights should be respected.
Emmanuel noted that his brother had awakened the consciousness of Nigerians about the goings-on in the country.
“My brother stood for the truth, and Heaven is on the part of anyone standing for the truth.
“He committed no crime, and the whole world is watching,” Emmanuel added.
In a short ruling on Tuesday, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja ordered that Kanu be remanded based on an application that was brought by the Federal Government.
Justice Nyako ordered that Kanu should remain in custody till July 26 pending the resumption of his trial.
The court proceeding took place barely 15 minutes after the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), disclosed to journalists that Kanu had been arrested.
During a media briefing on Tuesday, Malami stated that the IPOB leader was arrested based on a collaborative effort between security agencies in Nigeria and Interpol.
