By Joy Onu

The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has described the agency’s Public Information Campaign of the Year Award as an endorsement of its commitment to effective communication, national value reorientation and citizen engagement.

NOA received the award at the 2026 Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) Special Recognition Awards, held on Friday, October 23, at the Balmoral Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

According to a statement signed by the agency’s Director of Communication and Media, Bala Musa, who represented the director-general and received the award on his behalf, the recognition acknowledges NOA’s work in public enlightenment, civic education and communicating government policies, programmes and initiatives to Nigerians.

Issa-Onilu said effective public information campaigns were vital to national development, as they help build public trust, promote responsible citizenship and bridge the communication gap between government and citizens.

He noted that the agency would continue to promote the National Values Charter, deepen public understanding of government policies, foster national unity and encourage positive behavioural change.

The director-general dedicated the award to NOA’s management and staff nationwide, particularly those working at the grassroots, whose commitment and professionalism have strengthened the agency’s reach and impact.

He thanked ARCON for recognising the role of public sector communication in national development, adding that the award would encourage NOA to adopt more innovative, inclusive and citizen-centred communication strategies.

Issa-Onilu reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to using its nationwide network, traditional and digital media platforms, and strategic partnerships to promote informed citizenship, national cohesion and sustainable behavioural change.

The ceremony attracted representatives of public and private sector organisations, advertising professionals, corporate executives and other stakeholders in Nigeria’s advertising and marketing communications industry.

Other award categories included Excellence in Consumer Response Management, Excellence in Sponsorship Marketing, and Brand Reinvention and Innovation. Recognitions also covered industries such as food and beverages, aviation, banking and insurance, computers and electronics, e-commerce, real estate, personal care, entertainment, medical and pharmaceuticals, education, telecommunications and hospitality.
