Oando Plc, Julius Berger and Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc made the top 10 equity price gainers on the Nigerian Stock Exchange last week. Oando gained by 23.17 per cent, opening at N3.97 at the beginning of the week and closing at N4.89. Julius Berger gained by 10.84 per cent, opening at N20.30 and closing at N22.50. Transnational Corporation of Nigeria also gained by 8.51 per cent, opening at N0.94 and closing at N1.02.
Both Oando and Transnational Corporation were among the top three trading equities of the market for the week, closing the market on a bullish note. Together (including Fidelity Bank Plc), the equities accounted for 378.863 million shares worth N995.477 million in 2,998 deals. Usually, all the top three trading equities are under the Financial Services Industry. Other gainers on the market for the week included B.O.C. gases Plc that appreciated by 19.48 per cent, FTN Cocoa Processors which appreciated by 17.07 per cent and Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc which appreciated by 10.91 per cent. Capital Hotel Plc also appreciated by 9.85 per cent, Champion Brewery Plc appreciated by 9.76 per cent, Livestock Feeds Plc appreciated by 9.14 per cent and Academy Press Plc rose by 8.57 per cent. More equities appreciated on the market (37) than depreciated (35) but the All-Share Index and the market capitalization depreciated by 0.31 per cent to 38,547.08 (from 38,667.9) and N20.084 trillion (from N20.147 trillion) respectively.
The top 10 equities which declined in price on the stock market include Linkage Assurance Plc (14.29 per cent), Regency Assurance Plc (12.5 per cent), UPDC Plc (11.11 per cent), Learn Africa Plc (10 per cent), Pharma-Deko Plc (9.92 per cent), Universal Insurance Plc (9.09 per cent), Africa Prudential Plc (7.97 per cent), Wema Bank Plc (7.87 per cent), UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust (6.67 per cent) and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Plc (6.45 per cent). The NSE said, “A total turnover of 1.374 billion shares worth N11.823 billion in 22,982 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange, in contrast to a total of 896.174 million shares valued at N5.235 billion that exchanged hands last week in 11,714 deals.
