Nasarawa State University Keffi, have established the Capital Market Institute, the first in west Africa aim at proffering solutions and policies that strengthens challenges of financial markets in developing countries .
The executive director Nasarawa State University Keffi, institute of capital market, professor Uche Uwaleke in an interview after the inauguration of capital market institute revealed that no institute of capital market studies is offered in any tertiary institution not only in Nigeria but across the west African countries.
Uche said” As a matter of fact we don’t have and university based institute of Capital Market Studies in Nigeria. Infact in the whole of West Africa.
” And you know often times our country Nigeria is often referred to as a frontier market, it is only south Africa that is sometimes seen as an emerging market, most countries in Africa are regarded as frontier markets” He said
According to him, one of the criteria for considering a country as a frontier market has to do with the level of it financial market development, adding that in most developing countries the financial markets have challenges , the financial market are not deep and are ladened with debts and breaths” So I thought creating a capital market institute that would provide policies recommendations that will serve the need and service the financial sector will be ideal and must appropriate” He added.
Uche Uwaleke further explained that the institute will dwell mainly on research to providing evidence based solutions to face challenges that a constraining developing economies for financial market to grow.
He maintained that basically what will be obtain in the institute is to identify the challenges and proffer solutions based on research.
” This w is why we have mounted very unique programs in financial sector regulations , public desk management and money /capital market management. These are programs you don’t find in any other university than Nasarawa State university and we have also assembled very seasoned professors who will be involved in guiding students” Professor Uwaleke added.
