Offer answers, not justifications, for Nigeria’s well-known issues — Peter Obi challenges Tinubu government

According to Mr. Peter Obi, a former Labour Party, LP presidential candidate, every Nigerian is aware of the issues the country faces.

Obi expressed his disheartenment at hearing from those in authority, who were employed to deal with issues, that Nigerians are not the only ones who face hunger and poverty.

Rather, he argued that in times of crisis, a great leader offers assurance, direction, and solutions.

The former governor of Anambra State made the suggestion that the nation needs a comprehensive action plan to address its particular problems in a post on his X handle on Friday.

Obi asked people in positions of authority to provide real answers rather than just a gentle reminder that other people had similar problems.

He asserts that the nation requires a thorough strategy to address the unique issues, not generalizations that minimize the experiences of Nigerians.

“The issues confronting Nigeria are widely recognized by all Nigerians,” he said.

As the world’s center of poverty, we also rank among the most insecure and hungry people, have the worst quality of education and the largest percentage of children not attending school, high rates of infant mortality, corruption, and unemployment, the widest income disparity between the rich and the poor, a high perception of corruption, difficulties with infrastructure and healthcare, and more.

“Hearing the people in authority, who were employed to deal with our issues, say things like ‘we are not the only ones battling with poverty and hunger,’ is depressing.

“We need to hear a comprehensive action plan to address our particular struggles, not just an admission that other nations face similar difficulties.”

“Instead of making disparaging analogies to our situation, we need to address these problems with specific answers and a clear vision.

“I implore people in positions of leadership to provide real answers, not just reassurance that other people experience comparable difficulties.

“Instead of generalizations that minimize our experiences, we require a thorough strategy to address our unique problems. In times of crisis, a true leader offers certainty, solutions, direction, and guidance.

This is the distinguishing feature of visionary leadership and a characteristic of developing countries. They provide a road plan for conquering challenges rather than just restating the obvious.

Similar to a pilot who does more than simply alert passengers about turbulence, they also reassure them that every effort would be made to ensure a safe flight.

“Only then can we start to have faith that our nation is under competent leadership, striving for a more promising future for every Nigerian.”
