The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for Ogun State, Niyi Ijalaye has been reported to have slumped and died few hours after the meeting of Commission with Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja on Monday
It was reported that Ijalaye slumped and died after he retired to his hotel room on Monday evening after the meeting at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.
A source within Ogun INEC, who spoke under anonymity, said the Ondo-born REC had returned to his hotel room after the meeting before the incident happened.
Ijalaye was appointed as Ogun State’s REC in March 2022, following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State
INEC is yet to issue a confirmation statement on the reported death.
