Okada riders take to streets in protest, blocking task force deaths of comrades.

In protest of their colleagues’ deaths, irate motorbike riders have closed important routes and marketplaces in Okayama and Asaba, in the Delta State local government areas of Oshimili North and Oshimili South.

Indignation drove the demonstrators to take to the streets early on Monday morning, where they vandalized property.

The demonstrators also attacked establishments at the well-known Midwifery Market in Okpanam and the Delta State Post Primary Education Board on Sunnis Road in Asaba.

Two motorcycle riders lost their lives on Sunday during a State Task Force enforcement, according to Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the Delta State Police.

A police official added that several police had been sent to the protest location.

“There was a violent protest this morning by Okada riders who had issues last night with the state task force that led to the death of two persons,” Edafe stated in a post on his X handle.

“Our soldiers were dispatched to handle the situation before it turns into something else because they mobilized in large numbers this morning, trashing properties and beating people.”
