Nigerian celebrities have declared the arrest of Omah Lay and Tems without bail unlawful and accused the Ugandan government of using the artistes as pawns.
Omah Lay and Tems were arrested in Uganda for breaking COVID-19 restrictions in the country by performing at an event.
Joeboy tweeted, “Are they the show organizers? Except everyone who attended the show was also arrested, the this makes no sense.”
Debo Macaroni accused the Ugandan government of setting the artists up and demanded their release. “This is a set-up and we all must join voices together! Did Omah Lay and Tems invite themselves to Uganda? How do you arrest Nigerian artists in your country over a show they didn’t organize?
“How do you invite Nigerian artists to your country and detain them? Uganda government, please come correct! Don’t use our Artists to play politics.”
Fireboy wrote, “What is going on? @PoliceUg why are Omah lay and Tems being mistreated?” Fireboy also asked Nigerians to raise awareness about the arrest.
Moe Odele spoke about reaching out to lawyers in Uganda following the tweet by the Uganda Police Force announcing that Omah Lay, Tems, and Muyiwa Awomiyi have being arraigned in court.
