Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the Commander, Ondo State Security Network Agency Amotekun Corps, has been elected as the Chairman of the Council of Amotekun Commanders in Southwest Region
He was elected at the meeting of Southwest Corps Commanders held in Osogbo at the weekend.
The exemplary leadership displayed by the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Chairman of the Southwest Governors’ Forum and his sterling qualities for the corps to function were part of the attributes that earned Chief Adeleye this position.
In his remark, Adeleye said his new appointment will bring synergy among all Amotekun Commands making Ondo State the head of the Southwest state.
According to him, the Ondo State Amotekun corps as the headquarters will bring all members of Amotekun Corps to see themselves as one and collectively deal with the criminals in the region.
He emphasised that history is repeating itself and advised that “we must do what our predecessors did to put an end to the needless agitations and ethnic conflicts.
“The import of this historical background is to enable us chart a new course and put our differences aside in order to reach our full potentials and ensure the protection of lives and property in our domains.
“Our heritage winning wars, no matter the form or cause, must be aided by shared interests and intelligence if we must bequeath such to the next generation.
The Chairman, Council of Amotekun Commanders in the Southwest region stated that they all reached an agreement to access the present security situation in their areas and apply an advanced solution to each of the state Command.
“We have noted that Amotekun Corps is against criminals, not against any ethnic groups. When we drive these criminals, they end up moving from state to state.
The warlord who attributed his new position as the Chairman of the Council of Amotekun Commanders to God assured that the style of operation would be synchronized such that it would be favourable with modern security outfits organizations across the globe in terms of best modern practice.
Adeleye led the warlords on a courtesy visit to the Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for the unflinching support given to the Amotekun Corps in Osun State.
In his response, Oyetola charged the security outfit commanders on the need for collaboration to combat crimes in each state of the region and to curb the immigration of criminals into any of South West state.
He promised he will ensure they conclude the recruiting and commence training of the first official batch in the next two weeks.
While saluting the governors of the region for their proactiveness in establishing the security outfit, Oyetola emphasized that criminality has no ethnic or religious colouration and that all hands must be on deck to rid the region of criminal activities.
The Chairman Council of Amotekun Commanders expressed his condolence to the entire gallant soldiers of the Nigerian Armed Force over the death of the Chief of Army Staff describing it as a very rude shock.
