The Wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has launched Accelerated Maternal and Child Survival Birth Kits also known as “Solayo kits” for safe delivery of pregnant women in the State.
The programme which was in collaboration with the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency held at the Government’s House in Akure was attended by pregnant women who were given free birth kits by the First Lady.
Mrs Akeredolu who educated the pregnant women on the importance of an ante-natal clinic for safe delivery advised them to give birth to only the number of children they can cater for.
In his welcome address, Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Primary Health Development, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, who described Solayo Vanguard as a brainchild of Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu, appreciated her for providing birth kits to pregnant women across the 18 Local Government Areas.
Dr Akanbiemu explained that the Accelerated Maternal and Child Health Survival Project tagged “Solayo” is aimed at improving maternal and child health outcomes in the State through community-driven programming to promote family planning, ante-natal care services, institutional delivery and child immunization.
In his goodwill message, Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Ministry of Health, Mrs Folukemi Aladenola lauded Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu for showing love to women and children in the State and described the “Solayo Programme” as one of the best things that can happen to pregnant women at this time. She promised that the ministry will continue to support the First Lady’s programme to move the State forward.
