Opposition parties sponsoring unrest in South-East to thwart Obi’s victory – LP

National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Barr. Julius Abure on Wednesday alleged that politicians from the opposition parties were sponsoring political unrest in the South East to dissuade voters supporting Labour Party and Peter Obi.

Abure who thanked Nigerian for their massive support to the party and its Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, said that support is of no value if people fail to turn out en mass to translate their support into votes.

Addressing journalists at the LP National Secretariat, Abure expressed confidence on the determination of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do the right thing and ensure that the election was free and fair.

“I am aware that some sponsored persons especially in the South East are being paid and sponsored by opposition political parties to continue to threaten citizens not to come out to vote, deployed to deliberately reduce our vote.

“We therefore want to plead with our supporters that they should come out in their numbers wherever they are, to come out and vote. It is a mere threat to stop them from or to instil fear in them, to prevent them from coming out to vote” Abura pleaded.

The LP boss said that the nation for the first time witnessed a campaign driven by the people and a candidate organically accepted across board and called on all lovers of the country not to allow the opportunity sleep away.

He said, “The opportunity we have today in this country, has never been available. We have never had this opportunity where the activities of a political party, the activities of an individual candidates are driven by the people. This is the very first time that the people will be having a say, this is the very first time that people will be having a voice. I want to urge you that we must not allow this opportunity to elude us. We must take our destiny in our hands realizing the fact that opportunity lost can never be recovered.

“Nigerians must rise to the occasion. Our own supporters must rise to the occasion and ensure that their dream of having a new Nigeria, a Nigeria that guarantees security, a Nigeria that has service delivery to its people, a Nigeria that will be free from poverty, from hunger, from unemployment.   A Nigeria that will be free from the paradox of where you have crude oil yet you import petroleum products, pay subsidy and all the attendant cost. A Nigeria that truly will be in tandem with the mission and vision of the founding fathers on Nigeria”.

He reminded all supporters of the party that they are also party agents. He called on them to remain on standby after casting their votes to ensure that the correct figures are computed and declared.

He commended the efforts of international observers, adding that they have assured that they will observe the election and do the right thing.
