Osimhen requests Nigerians to quit cyberbullying Iwobi, pointing out his mental health

Following Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations loss to Ivory Coast, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has encouraged Nigerians to quit harassing teammate Alex Iwobi.

Some fans made offensive comments to Iwobi after the Super Eagles’ defeat to Ivory Coast, criticizing his play in the match.

Iwobi, who is a Premier League player for Fulham right now, acknowledged quitting social media after the AFCON final due to the harassment.

Later, some unverified rumors surfaced online, implying that the former Arsenal player was thinking about ending his international career.

Osimhen, however, has now expressed his support for Iwobi and urged the bullies to consider Iwobi’s mental health because football players are simply human and are prone to making mistakes.

Tuesday in Abuja, the Napoli star stated, “I urge Nigerians that cyberbullying is bad because we are also humans.”

“Mistakes happen to us sometimes. On occasion, when we play well, we will experience the excitement. Naturally, nevertheless, constructive criticism must be used in these kinds of situations.

To be fair, I believe that what they did to Alex Iwobi was horrible and unbelievable. His mental health ought to be examined as well, as some of us may take this personally and continue working hard.

And some of us let it go to our heads, losing our form and our attention in the process. I believe that we are uniting behind him. Both individually and collectively, we have spoken with him.
