Osun Speaker’s 5th term ambition stopped as PDP sweeps assembly seats, APGA wins majority in Anambra

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party showed an impressive outing  in Saturday’s state assembly election in Osun State, winning 25 out of 26 seats as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC(.

 

In the declared results, opposition All Progressives Congress APC, only won Boripe/Boluwaduro State Constituency seat with its candidate, Olufemi Popoola, polling 15,594 votes to defeat PDP’s Adesina Aina, that got 14,817 votes.

 

According to the results, the Speaker of the Assembly, representing Ilesa East, Timothy Owoeye, running on the platform of the APC, seeking 5th term, lost his reelection bid to the PDP’s Olatunbosun Oyewole who was returned elected.

 

Other results indicated that in Ilesa West State Constituency, Olawale Akerele was returned elected, Tajudeen Adeyemi, won the seat for Ifelodun State Constituency, while Akinloye Bajepade won Ila State Constituency seat.

 

Kashope Abolarinwa won the Ifedayo State Constituency seat, Adekunle Oladimeji won Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency seat, Adewale Egbedun won Odo-Otin State Constituency, while Olaide Ajibola won Olorunda State Constituency seat.

In Anambra state, the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA( won the majority in the Anambra State House of Assembly election conducted on March 18. The party won 17 out of the 30- member legislature, while the Labour Party, LP, won eight, leaving the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with three and two seats each.

According to the result announced by INEC on Sunday, APGA won in Anaocha 1, Njikoka 2, Dunukofia, Aguata 1, Aguata 2, Awka South 2, Ayamelum and Njikoka 1.

The party also won in Idemili South, Oyi, Anambra East, Awka North, Ekwusigo, Anambra West, Ihiala 1 and Ihiala 2.

Constituencies won by the LP are Onitsha North 1, Onitsha North 2, Onitsha South 1, Onitsha South 2, Awka South 1, Idemili North, Orumba North and Anaocha 1.

The PDP won in Ogbaru 1 and Ogbaru 2, while YPP won in Nnewi North, Nnewi South 1 and Nnewi South 2.
