Over 1,000 Nigerians lost $10,000 apiece after being duped by fictitious UK jobs.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), over a thousand Nigerians have fallen for pretenses of exciting career prospects in the UK.

At a press conference held in Abuja on Monday, Laurent De Boeck, the Chief of Mission at IOM, disclosed the information.

He claimed that some of the victims lost a hefty sum of money—up to $10,000 each—while trying to obtain international employment in the UK.

According to him, the victims received fictitious work letters that let them obtain a visa for the UK, but the organizations didn’t recognize them.

Some of them lost more than $10,000, but they were provided fictitious work documents that let them obtain visas.

When they arrive and show the letters, the organizations inform them that they are not the source of the letters. “It affects more than a thousand people,” he said.

According to Boeck, victims are currently stuck in the UK since they lack the resources to travel back home.
