To find out why some towns in the Ohafia Local Government area of Enugu have been without electricity for five years, lawmakers have filed a petition with the National Assembly.
He said that despite the five years of darkness, the impacted villages were still receiving astronomical bills totaling N2.1 billion.
In a petition he filed on Friday with the House of Representatives in Abuja, Osonwa stated that the communities wanted an explanation as to how they came up with a N2.1 billion bill while going five years without power.
He claims that several attempts have been made, but in vain, to find a peaceful way to resolve the unresolved problems caused by the ongoing darkness in the impacted villages.
“They are telling us that if we pay them the money, they will give us power, but we are telling them to give us power first, and then we will settle the ‘unpaid debt.'”
According to him, the anticipated bill that EEDC had given the communities was unreasonable and unnecessary.
He said that an outstanding obligation of N600,000 for the power he consumed was given to even his deceased biological father.
