A pastor with one of the Lagos parishes of the Redeemed Christian Church of God ( RCCG) Bola Ibrahim has been killed during a Sunday Church Service in the Mile 12 area of the state.
While residents of the area expressed their belief that the deceased pastor might have been killed by suspected cultists, his family members insisted that he was killed by hired assassins.
The deceased pastor was last Sunday conducting a church child dedication session at the King of Kings parish of the RCCG in Maidon Petele area of Mike 12 when the incident happened.
Residents of the area said that the incident might not be unconnected with the recent cult clashes that had resulted in the death of no fewer than six persons in the last week.
The bereaved wife of the deceased, Kudirat Ibrahim said that her husband was not a cultist and that he was observing fasting and prayer when he was killed.
The woman narrated that, “I wasn’t at home on the fateful day of the incident. I went to take care of my sick mother at the hospital, I had no premonition about his death.
She added that “I never knew my husband had been killed, I was still busy calling him to bring something for me from home not knowing that he had already been killed.”
The woman also added that ” Each time I called him, the person who picked his call kept telling me my husband is preaching, it was later around 7pm that my elder brothers came to break the news to me about the gruesome murder of my beloved husband.”
An aunt to the deceased, Mrs Justina Alebiosu also expressed her conviction that the deceased was assassinated.
The distraught woman said, “what happened to my brother was a clear case of hired assassination. Before they killed him, they showed him his picture to identify if he was actually the person they came for.”
She also added that :” His death was an unfortunate one, we have lost a gentleman. I was told when the assailants wanted to dragged him out of the pulpit where he was praying for women who brought their children for child dedication, he begged them to kill him there and that was where he was eventually killed by the gunmen.”
She added that, “the assailants also threatened to shoot any of the members of the church who dare come close to them.”
Meanwhile , no fewer than five other persons have reportedly in the last one week been killed around the same neighbourhood in what appeared to be reprisal attacks from different cult groups .
Three people were reportedly last Thursday killed by a gang of cult members around the Ketu Mile 12 Underbirdge.
A resident of Maidon Orile, Mr Babatunde said ” about six persons have been killed in the last one week by the same cult members, who take advantage of the situation to rob and molest people .”
For about a week now, hardly a day passes without us seeing dead bodies of cult members on the road.
