Oleksandr Zinchenko may end up costing the Gunners in this season’s Premier League title contest, according to Arsenal icon Paul Merson.
If Arsenal wins their remaining match at the Emirates on Thursday against West Ham United, they will pass Liverpool and take the top spot in the Premier League standings again.
In their most recent game, Mikel Arteta’s team defeated Liverpool at Anfield to earn a point.
But they may have defeated Jurgen Klopp’s team if Zinchenko hadn’t played such a bad defense against Mohamed Salah.
Merson told Sky Sports that Arsenal is a different team these days.
Declan Rice has elevated them to a new level, and they have gained a lot of knowledge from the previous season. They’ll go on and triumph [in the Premier League title]Â now.
The left-back may be the source of their issues. That defense [against Liverpool] is appalling.
That’s what worries me. They need Zinchenko, in my opinion, for matches against teams in the bottom part of the standings, when they can go out and play and win the game, but they don’t need him when they play the big boys.
