PDP clarifies Wike’s membership status saying ‘We’re not afraid of him’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted rumors that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike was a presidential candidate in the main opposition party before joining the APC. The rumors started when President Bola Tinubu appointed the former governor of Rivers State to the FCT position in the APC government.

Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, cleared the air on Monday by stating that Wike is still a member of the party and has not resigned.

In response to the question of whether the party is frightened to suspend the former governor, a PDP official told Channels TV that the short answer is no. Wike is not feared by anyone.

“Party membership is personal,” he continued. As far as I’m aware, Nyesom Wike hasn’t left the PDP.

“Wike has contributed greatly to this party. As is normal in politics, there were difficulties before to the general elections.

However, the fact that he hasn’t quit doesn’t imply that he isn’t still a party member. Based on the documentation I possess, Wike remains a party member.

“The ability of the party to reconcile itself is more significant. We are aware of our ability as a party to make amends and bring everyone who has suffered because of this nation together.

“For Nigeria to be stabilized, we need a party like PDP. The APC has become numb. They lack both direction and vision.
