Some elected officers of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sounded note of caution to members of National Working Committee (NWC) and other stakeholders who have expressed frustration over the inability of the party to overcome its challenges and reposition to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The officers comprise Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi, Deputy National Financial Secretary, Ndubuisi Ene and Deputy National Organising Secretary, Pashcal Adigwe.
In a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Wednesday, the party’s Deputy National Youth Leader Timothy Osadolor cautioned party executives from championing any agenda or making statements that would further divide the party.
He said that the court has given a judgement that affirmed Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Party just as the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Ilya Damagum’s tenure has been extended till December. He said that anyone not happy with the judgment of the court should go on appeal or leave the party.
“The National Working Committee members that are in Porthacourt are not the only one demarketing the party, we also have key stakeholders in the party that have turned themselves into spokesperson of the party across the country. An NWC member has the right to go anywhere to protect the interest of the party in any capacity but to go and start doing self- bashing unauthorized is not going to be welcomed.
“We have also seen some members doing self-serving job. We are not alien to having those who want to become saboteurs but we have the capacity to not only cut them to size but also take hold of our party.
“This party should remain one, indivisible and there is only one acting Chairman now, and until there is a pronouncement otherwise, everybody should take direction and instruction from the leadership of the party.
“On the issue of the National Chairman, the court judgement is clear, he is there till December 2025. The issue of the National Secretary is in the Supreme Court and there is a stay of execution which says that status quo should remain and that he should continue to act until that order is vacated, so he is still the National Secretary.
“So nobody in the name of agitating for any leader or group of leaders or interest in the party should go ahead raising camps for or against because this issue is a settled issue unless you have an ulterior agenda”.
The Deputy Youth Leader said that some members of the Party, under the guise of ‘due process advocates’ act on behalf of self serving leaders lurking behind the scenes mischievously causing misunderstanding in the party.
“This behavior is apparently self serving on their path, as it is not in the interest of the PDP in anyway. It is ethically and morally wrong for Members of the Party to move around creating confusion instead of exploring our internal mechanism for peace.
“From the BOT chairman who endorsed an opposition governor, to candidates that negotiated and supported other party candidate in promises to get their return support, to NWC members and leaders that lost their polling units. We must all come down from our high horses, forget pride for now and join hands with the party as led by Amb Illya Damagun to reposition this party back to winning ways.
“Court distractions and media demarketting of the PDP must stop forth with. You do not need to like the officers, but the party is more important. If you want to resign and go, be a proper opposition, do not be here and going from TV house to radio house abusing the party. The case of the acting national chairman is settled till December, 2025, and on that of the National Secretary, see wait on the courts. Let’s learn to love and support PDP first and always” he said.
