PDP Crisis: NWC summons feuding Cross River state factions

BY MYKE UZENDUĀ

Determined to restore a lasting peace among the ranks of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River state, the National Working Committee of the party has summoned all the feuding factions and stakeholders to a meeting on Thursday in Abuja

Recall that the Cross River state PDP has remained in a tearing leadership crisis, since the exit of the former governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, who defectedĀ  to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in May 2021,

The state chapter of the party has been submerged in series of crisis with several factions trying to control the structure of the party with suspension and counter suspension orders.

Following these unabated crisis, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has summoned all the stakeholders for a meeting at the partyā€™s headquarters, Abuja on Thursday.

Some members of the partyā€™s state executive had, in November, announced the suspension of the state party chairman, Venatius Ikem.

The suspension was however upturned by the NWC, which rejected.Ā  the development on the ground that it was illegal, unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect.

A copy of the invitation letter to Thursdayā€™s meeting sighed by our reporter reads,

ā€œFollowing the recent development in the Cross River State Chapter of our Party, where members of the State Executive Committee have reported to have suspended the State Chairman, the National Working Committee, NWC, of our Party; after deliberating on the situation, concluded to invite the Critical Stakeholders in Cross River State for an interactive/Fact-Finding meeting as follows:

ā€œDate: Thursday, December 12, 2024;

ā€œVenue: NEC Hall, Wadata Plaza, Abuja FCT, Time: 12 noon.

ā€œPlease note that attendance is strictly by invitation as par the attached list.ā€
You may also wish to note that despite the influence of former governors Liyel Imoke and Donald Duke who are still members of the PDP, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the ruling party in the state.
