Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano has stated that he will continue mapping out policies that will be beneficial to People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) in the state. Gov. Obiano said they will remain an integral part of his government, especially getting them involved in decision making.
The governor stated this when members of the state chapter of the Association of People Living with Disabilities visited the Anambra State Cargo and Passengers Airport, Umueri in Anambra East Local Government. The governor said the delegation came to inspect some facilities at the airport meant for People Living With Disabilities to assure them of inclusion in every project initiated by the government.
Gov. Obiano, who was represented by the Commissioner for Works, Marcel Ifejiofor, informed the delegation that the state government is mindful of the needs of PLWDs and that their interests were taken into consideration during the conceptualization of the Anambra airport, it’s design and until completion. “We appreciate the support you have given to the government and we reassure that persons with disabilities would be given special attention in the use of the airport facilities,” the governor said.
Speaking during the visit, the Special Adviser to Gov. Obiano on Disability Matters and Director, Anambra State Disabilities Rights Commission, Chuks Ezewuzie, said the essence of the visit was to confirm the installation of the facilities at the new airport and ensure they’re friendly to persons with disabilities. “Persons with disabilities visited the airport today to see for themselves that the governor has the welfare of persons with disabilities at heart while building the airport.
“The governor has continued to demonstrate his unrivalled passion and commitment to the welfare of persons with disabilities. He has left in Anambra an enduring legacy that the future generation would enjoy,” the governor’s aide stated.
