The presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the general election scheduled for March 2023, Peter Obi, has conveyed his appreciation for the unceasing work of Nigeria’s security services in the face of several security issues that have greatly taxed their resources.
Following the attack on villages on Christmas Eve in the Barkin-Ladi and Bokkos Local Government Areas of Plateau State, Obi expressed gratitude. Tragically, this attack killed over 100 lives and injured hundreds more as it destroyed homes and other property.
In 48 hours before Christmas, the military is said to have reacted to 36 distress calls from different parts of Plateau State. Whether any of these distress calls originated precisely in the Barkin-Ladi and Bokkos LGAs is yet unknown.
Obi expressed his horror at the horrific event in a statement posted on social media, but he also acknowledged the security services’ continued efforts to fight terrorism and insurgencies.
“After my condolence visit to the Regent of Oba Community in Anambra State for the senseless act of terrorism that happened on Christmas Day in Plateau State, where the death toll is now reportedly over 100 with over 300 injured, with the heartbreaking acts of violence that have occurred in Zamfara and Kastina States,” he stated in his statement.
“My thoughts turned to our overworked security personnel in the wake of the killings of farmers and kidnappings of numerous others, as well as the numerous more violent assaults that may go undetected around the nation. I think of the men and women who serve in our armed forces and security agencies.
“Let them know that a thankful nation values the labor they have put in. Great nations are constructed by their rulers, people, and defenders of freedom.
As a result, all of our great heroes have our sincere gratitude for your service and sacrifices as well as the prayers and thoughts of your fellow citizens. For everything you do to help us all, may God bless you all.
