Phoenix University rolls out 3 Faculties, 8 Departments to begin academic activities

Another new feather have been added to educational development as a privately owned varsity, Phoenix University prepares to begin academics activities next year.

This , the management of the university in Agwada Development Area of Kokona Local Government Council, Nasarawa State revealed.

Briefing a team of journalists , led by it chairman , comrade Salihu Alkali on Wednesday, the Vice Chancellor , Professor Abdullahi Bala disclosed that Phoenix University have received formal approval and registration of the Federal Executive Council on 27th May 2023 after fulfilling all the initial regulatory requirements and was subsequently issued with provisional licence for it’s take off by the National University Commission on 9th June 2023.

Professor Abdullahi Bala stated that” the university received a resource verification team from NUC that inspect the adequacy of our facilities to commence activities, owing to the quality of our infrastructural and academic resources . We recently received the final approval to commence formal academics activities and admission into 24 academic programs that were presented for resource verification” He posited.

Fielding questions from journalists ,the Vice Chancellor said the university has pegged 140 for admission as the code off mark for it pioneer students,adding that it was deliberately done to encourage university education in the state.

He said that for a start ,Phoenix University Agwada, targets admission of 50% out of the basic 500 as a requirement from NUC and that it intends to employ 2 professors for each program for the start.

According to him ” We are beginning academics activities with 3 faculties which are faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences , Faculty of Computing and the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences .These will be in capsulated in departments.For the department of Basic Science,courses includes BSc Microbiology, Biochemistry,Physics with Electronics.

” Department of Agriculture, BSc in Agric-Business , Agriculture and Agricultural Economics. Also, for Department of Mathematics and Statistics , BSc Mathematics and BSc Statistics. As Department of Computer Sciences , courses includes Computer Science , Cyber Security, Information System and BSc information and communication Technology.

” The university will be offering courses under the department of Accounting and Finance, BSc Accounting, Banking and Finance, while the department of Business and Public Administration, offers BSc Public Administration and Business Administration , among others .

Professor Abdullahi assured that the university has perfected plans to introduce for the 2024/2025 academic session additional programs that are meant to close the manpower skill gaps in the country especially in the medical sector.

He also assured of the serenity and secured environment away from distractions as the university is strategically located in the heart of Nasarawa State.

The VC also said Phoenix University is modelled on the vision of producing graduates that will add value to Nigeria economy as well as have the knowledge and skill to be global players.
