The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a security guard for abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Port Harcourt.
The suspect, identified as Godday, worked at a building formerly used by a commercial bank near Mothercat Junction, Trans-Amadi. He was arrested on September 23 after the girl’s mother reported the incident.
According to her, the girl had gone to withdraw money from an ATM when the suspect trailed and abducted her. He allegedly dragged her to his security post, locked the gate, and defiled her.
The victim returned home with torn, bloodied clothes and visible injuries. Her mother said no amount of compensation could restore her daughter’s innocence and demanded justice.
Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Dennis Otobo of the Association Against Child Sexual Abuse and Gender-Based Violence called on the police to expedite prosecution of the suspect.
