President states amid widespread suffering – “Nigerians have lowest cost of living in Africa.”

According to the government of President Bola Tinubu, Nigerians have the lowest cost of living in all of Africa.

On Sunday, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, made this declaration.

This is all the while the nation continues to experience severe challenges due to inflation, which was brought on by the elimination of fuel subsidies at the start of Tinubu’s administration.

Onanuga acknowledged that the administration’s changes will result in “immediate pains,” but he also pointed out that in the medium and long periods, they will usher in a period of prosperity for Nigeria.

In response to recent remarks attributed to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Onanuga made this statement.

Atiku has maintained that a longer and more severe economic crisis was being built up by President Tinubu’s inadequate handling of the country’s problems.

Onanuga, however, criticized Atiku’s claims regarding the rising cost of living, stating: “Recent comparative cost of living indices show that Nigerians still enjoy the lowest cost of living in Africa. His claim that the government’s policies have created intense cost of living pressures is also not grounded on facts.”

In a statement on Sunday, it said, “Atiku’s claims that the private sector is shrinking and that multinational companies are leaving our companies in ‘droves’ are not grounded on facts.”

Atiku “should be honest enough to accept that President Tinubu inherited a poor economy,” according to Onanuga, which is to say that the economy “needs a complete overhaul.

“The statement went on to say that Nigerians are able to discern the hypocrisy of Alhaji Atiku, who, while accusing President Tinubu of failing to address the country’s problems and inflicting suffering and hopelessness, failed to present any more compelling policy alternatives during his presidential campaign that would have diverted from President Tinubu’s agenda for economic reform.”

Reputable local and international organizations that are aware of the circumstances in which the Tinubu government finds itself have praised the administration, he said, pointing out that it has a clearly constructive, realistic, and sustainable policy trajectory.

The president stated that the administration’s critics “cannot stop the serious work of nation-building already set” since it has already started comprehensive fiscal and tax policy reform, which would accelerate economic development and promote a quick recovery.
