President Tinubu Communicates With Nigerians, Organized Labour

When the proposed measure was ready, the government promised Tinubu would send it to the National Assembly.

Speaking with Punch, the President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga questioned why there was such a haste to get the bill sent.

Barely 24 hours have passed since Organized Labor requested that the President confer with them before to forwarding the bill to the National Assembly, which is when Onanuga’s stance was announced.

The Union had complained that Tinubu’s failure to forward the wage bill is causing the National Executive Committee, which would hold meetings with over 300 Labour leaders, to come to a standstill.

During his Democracy Day broadcast, the President revealed that the Federal Government and Labor had achieved a deal regarding the new wage. However, Organized Labor refuted this information.

Onanuga urged patience although acknowledging that he was unsure of when the bill would be filed.

“People ought to exercise patience,” he said.

His appeal comes just one week after he reaffirmed that the workers’ union’s demand for a wage of ₦250,000 is unaffordable and warned that the federal government cannot allocate all of its resources to accommodate such a demand.
